Terms of use

The rules
of the road.

Use Uwazia for the science. Don’t use it as a substitute for a dermatologist. The rest of this page explains what that means in practice.

Effective 16 May 2026

01

What Uwazia is

Uwazia is a skincare discovery and intelligence platform. It publishes editorial content — ingredient pages, concern pages, brand monographs, Ledger articles, and product verdicts — built on primary literature and independent audit.

Uwazia is not a pharmacy. We do not sell products. We do not dispense medical advice. We do not diagnose conditions. Where the catalog points you to a brand or a retailer, the transaction is between you and that party.

02

Use at your own risk

Everything published on Uwazia is for informational purposes only. For medical advice, a diagnosis, or treatment of a specific skin condition, consult a qualified dermatologist or other appropriate healthcare professional.

Skincare is individual. An ingredient that works for the median user may not work for you, and a product we mark as a Hero may still cause irritation or an allergic reaction in your case. Patch-test new actives. Stop using anything that causes a reaction. If a reaction is severe, seek medical attention.

03

Accuracy and revisions

We work hard to be accurate. We read primary literature, we cite our sources, and we date our revisions. We are nonetheless human, and the science evolves. We do not warrant that every page is free of error, current, or complete for your situation.

When we discover a factual error, we correct it and date the revision. When you discover one, write to us at uwaziacare@gmail.com and we will look into it.

04

Editorial independence

Uwazia’s verdicts, evidence tiers, and Ledger articles are produced under an editorial firewall. No brand, advertiser, or sponsor can buy, influence, or remove editorial content. Brands can correct factual errors in their monograph before publication; they cannot dictate verdicts or pull negative coverage.

If we ever introduce paid placements, sponsored content, or affiliate links, they will be clearly labelled as such and will not affect the verdicts on this platform. The methodology page is the standing record of this commitment.

05

Intellectual property

The text, layout, code, and editorial framework of Uwazia belong to Uwazia. You may quote short excerpts for personal use, journalism, academic work, or commentary with attribution. You may not republish entire articles, scrape the catalog for resale, or use Uwazia content to train commercial machine-learning models without our written consent.

Brand names, product names, and INCI nomenclature belong to their respective owners and are used here for identification and editorial purposes only.

06

External links

Uwazia links to external sites — brand pages, study repositories, regulatory filings. We do not control what those sites publish and we do not endorse everything they say. Following an external link takes you out of our jurisdiction; their terms apply.

07

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Uwazia, its founders, and its contributors are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising out of your use of the platform — including, without limitation, loss arising from skincare decisions you make based on information published here.

Some jurisdictions don’t allow exclusions of certain warranties or limitations of liability. Where that’s the case, this section applies only to the extent permitted by the applicable law.

08

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we’ll update the effective date at the top of the page. Material changes will be flagged on the home page or, where relevant, communicated to anyone who has subscribed to direct updates. Continuing to use Uwazia after a change means you accept the updated terms.

09

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United Republic of Tanzania, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute that cannot be resolved by good-faith correspondence will be brought in the competent courts of Dar es Salaam.
